On October 1, Bits&Chips will present, in partnership with HI-TECH RF & Microwave Solutions and Dassault Systemes, a webinar demonstrating how to use 3D Electromagnetic Simulation Software (CST STUDIO SUITE)  to simplify EMC certification. This approach enables you to detect radiated emission issues in the early phase of your design, save on the cost of pre-compliance testing, and shorten your time-to-market.

The webinar starts with a simple SPICE simulation of a six-switch inverter and motor using the Design Studio tool to discuss its limitations and what the advantages are for switching to a 3D modeling approach. Based on the 3D geometry of the inverter power module, a demonstration will show how to build a SPICE model that considers the parasitic elements using the RLC (resistance, inductance and capacitance ) solver. This model demonstrates why it is recommended to use a full-wave solution for a complex model.

The next part focuses on the use of the full-wave solution based on the FD (Frequency Domain) solver to demonstrate the usefulness of 3D simulation to investigate radiated emission issues on large models and across a wide frequency band. An example of a conducted immunity test, such as an “ESD” test, will be presented.

The webinar will also explain EMC modeling from a system point of view using CST Cable Studio and the TLM (Transmission Line Matrix) solver.
